En entrevista con Javier Poza, Sergio Mayer resaltó alguna de las labores que hizo como ciudadano para ayudar al país, entre ellas destacó su trabajo como striper en el show "Sólo para mujeres" hizo por los derechos de las mujeres.

De acuerdo con Grupo Fórmula, antes de ser diputado federal y presidente de la Comisión de Cultura y Cinematografía, Sergio Mayer Betrón, aseguró que con su trabajo como actor también ponía su granito de arena en favor de los derechos de las mujeres.

Mayer también comentó que su principal  "anhelo" por ser diputado y presidente de la Comisión de Cultura y Cinematografía, surgió después de que secuestraran a su hermano menor.

Después de que secuestraran a mi hermano estuve a punto de dejar México. Una persona me dijo, ´que fácil para ti poder correr del país, por qué no te quedas mejor a hacer algo, ustedes como figuras públicas lo pueden hacer. Y me cayó el 20 [...] La vida, Dios y México me han dado muchas cosas buenas y lo único que podía hacer es darle lo que me han dado, contó.

Sergio Mayer asegura que la decisión de involucrarse en la política no fue por un "tema de ocurrencia ni de oportunidad ni popularidad, porque hay muchos partidos políticos que buscan actores porque son populares. Conmigo fue al revés, yo fui tocando puertas, trabajé desde la parte social, siempre he estado en la parte activa".
